Five Days Post-Op

I have a lot to say about this whole operating on an elderly cat thing (the vast majority of which is positive) and think that I will bore you all with a post about it soon. Why? Because I've done a tremendous amount of Googling over the past two weeks and didn't find one single (as in, all information in one place) source that sums up everything. I'd like to know that if someone finds themselves in our/kitty's position in the future that I can be of some help by providing our story of a major operation on an elderly cat.

In the meantime: kitty has been an absolute star this week. He's repeatedly reminded me of what a gentle and precious soul he is, which of course has brought me to tears more than once (but mostly in a happy way).

His incision (which extends the entire length of his abdomen) is healing well. There have been no signs of infection and he's leaving the suture alone. He's also beginning to demonstrate the improvements that we had so hoped this surgery would result in. We are still waiting for the histopath report but I am more hopeful than ever that the results will be negative.

And, best of all, he moved his bowels today for the first time since Sunday. A good stinky shit has never made me so happy.

Hope the little furball and his mommy are continuing to do well...

I've had to make some decisions on behalf of geriatric cats but not one like this. I'll be looking forward to whatever insight you can share.

Kitty is doing better than well. :)

He's doing amazingly well and this surgery certainly was the right decision: all of his behavioural "problems" have disappeared. He now uses the litter box *every* time, his appetite has increased and, for the first time in months, he is curled up on top of the bed instead of under it. Yay! Yay! Yay!

Stitches come out tomorrow and then we can put this behind us once and for all.

Thanks to all of you for your support through it all. Your kind words meant a great deal.
